Trigonion Tower via the Old Wall

Trigonion Tower is one of the most important defensive towers of Thessaloniki’s Byzantine city walls. Located in Ano Poli (Upper Town), the tower marks a strategic point where the eastern and northern walls meet, offering sweeping views over the city and the Thermaic Gulf.

Reaching Trigonion Tower via the old wall pathway is a popular historic walk that combines architecture, history, and panoramic scenery.

The tower dates mainly to the late Byzantine period (14th–15th century).
It formed part of Thessaloniki’s fortification system, protecting the city from land attacks.
The surrounding walls include Byzantine and Ottoman construction phases, reflecting the city’s layered history.
